• Why First Aid?

First aid most often associated with a Band-Aid symbol. Its no wonder majority thinks they don’t need training. First aid is about saving lives. It has little to do with Band-Aids. Fact.

    Need for First Aid

Truth is that a good first aid class will not even use a Band-Aid. The only bleeding that is covered are the ones that are life-threatening - the ones that push the victim into shock, endangering their life.

So what is first aid? There are several breathing, cardiac, and other health emergencies that can kill a victim within ten (10) minutes. This is the reason why this initial period of a health emergency is called the PLATINUM-10 minutes. First aid is the primary link in the chain of health care services – and perhaps the most important. The objective is to keep the victim alive till the next link is activated – ie, a more trained medical professional such as a paramedic or a doctor takes over. Without effective first aid, the victim will not survive till the next link.

    Practical First Aid Training

Why are companies in the false sense of security that they can actually respond to emergencies? Most of the times, the emergency training methodology is the culprit.

In Q4 2012, we surveyed 378 first aid trained employees from 10 top corporate houses and asked them to perform Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) on a mannequin. Only two (2) of 378 succeeded! Investigation found that all these training programs involved instructors training a class-size of over 30, using PowerPoint presentations.

What are the chances of someone, with less than 60 minutes of practical training, performing CPR successfully? Less than 1% !!! When a life is at stake, are these the odds you want to have?

  • Your Family’s Safety

Did you know that India is the heart disease capital (even surpassing China) of the world? That household accident is a certainty with kids?

    Save Lives

If your dear one is having a breathing or cardiac emergency (commonly with less than 6 minutes before permanent brain damage), no matter how close you live near the hospital or how fast you drive, it doesn’t matter, you cannot save that person’s life. The only solution is to learn life-saving skills.

The results of children choking on food is staggering – American Academy of Pediatrics find that one child in the dies from choking on food every five days. Stay outside the emergency room of a local children’s hospital and you will see yourselves how true that is. How often do you see a family member helplessly watching a dear one die at an accident scene? Do you want to be helpless or do you want to empower yourself with the finest life-saving skills in the world?

    Practical Training

What is learned in classroom can be effectively applied to a real situation only if the training program includes a significant amount of hands-on exercises, simulations, and true-to-life scenarios. The American Red Cross first aid curriculum is build around this tenet.

To be certified, each trainee will have to demonstrate practical knowledge of 15 skills (for basic first aid) at the end-of-training evaluation scenario. Each skill performance is observed by the instructor and graded. The trainee must perform each skill at an excellent, above average, or satisfactory grade to qualify for certification. Such evaluation guarantees that the trainees can effectively perform the skills under stress, both mental and physical.

  • First Aid Technology

Most first aid trainings are done merely to satisfy government regulations. With daily technological advances in the field of healthcare, do they leverage the best instructors and equipment?

    Advanced Equipment

Survival Instincts is the only training agency in India that utilizes state-of-the-art ‘active’ mannequins that resemble / imitate human reactions. They also electronically monitor the effectiveness of various parameters of the first aid procedure. For eg., depth, angle, rebound, and frequency in the case of CPR.

All of our first aid sessions employ equipment that is used to train medical emergency responders in the United States. Using appropriate training equipment such as Automatic External Defibrillators, Pulse Oximeters, and Digital Monitors for Vitals Assessments, improves your ability to master techniques quickly and also the probability of you saving lives. Being built to best-of-the-world health care standards prevalent in the USA, technologically the program is superior to any comparative program.

  • Advanced First Aid

Basic first aid assumes platinum-10 minutes (by when advanced medical professionals arrive) and the golden-hour (by when the patient is moved to a hospital). What if this is not the case?

    Professional Training

In a wilderness setting or a scenario where the patient has a life-threatening condition and the possibility of doctor reaching in time and the patient being moved to a hospital within an hour is slim, basic first skills are simply not sufficient to save lives.

Survival Instincts provides training on more sophisticated assessment, care, life-support, medical evacuation and ambulatory care techniques in our advanced and professional first aid programs. If you are an organization’s safety manager, EHS manager, or an Emergency Response Team leader, these skills are vital to your professional development. BEWARE OF REQUESTS FOR DONATIONS! Please share and avoid getting cheated! In the aftermath of TN floods, as citizens look to help - there are many unscrupulous organizations / individuals soliciting money / monetary donations. If you wish to contribute money, do that to a reputable non-profit agencies like the Prime Ministers Relief Fund, Chief Ministers Relief Funds, Reputable Religious Charities, the UN humanitarian agencies, the Red Cross etc. Keep in mind that even during our years of disaster rescue and relief missions, we have NOT come across even one instance where money is useful during these initial phases of the disaster. It is materials like reliably sourced bottled water, hygienically prepared food, first aid supplies, blankets, tarps, fuel (petrol, kerosene, diesel - transported and distributed safely), your volunteering during relief activities and your heart to help that actually matters, now. Spread this message and avoid anyone profiting from the disaster.
